Category News

South Africa's premier motorsport and motoring lifestyle event will be taking place from the 2nd to the 5th of May. This offers a thrilling three-day line up for the 2019 Jaguar Simola Hillclimb, marking the 10th edition of this truly outstanding automotive extravaganza.

Oldest Lineup of Cars

On-Track Hillclimb action starts on May 3rd with Classic Car Friday, which provides an impressive selection of iconic car models and brands. The oldest car in the line-up will be the 1928 Austin Seven driven by Greig Smith, as he shares the start line with 64 drivers piloting a spectacular collection of machines spanning over more than six decades. The Fan Fest activities on the Thursday and Friday will include the Coca-Cola Gig Rig, and other entertainment to whet your appetite.

30 Automotive Brands

Restricted to a maximum of 84 competitors for The King of the Hill Entry List, sporting 30 automotive brands this year. Jaguar will be showing off their latest models, such as the award-winning All-Electric Jaguar I-PACE. This car will be accompanied by an impressive collection of car brands including Porsche, Lamborghini, McLaren, Alfa Romeo, Chevrolet, BMW, Lotus, Mercedes-AMG, Shelby, and Nissan.

SUV's have been Included

This year the King of the Hill classes have been expanded and revised compared to those we previously saw. In addition to the Class A for standard road-going cars has been made, A9 caters for the high-end, high-performance sport utility vehicles (SUVs), sport activity vehicles (SAVs) and the South African favourite, Bakkies.

B & C Class

For Class B, the regulations for the modified saloon racing cars, incorporates two new classes, allowing four-cylinder forced-induction cars to compete independently.

Class C carries the biggest changes, separating the specialised single-seater and sports racing cars into individual categories for the first time, thus attracting new entries amongst the quick race-bred machines.

It will be interesting to see if Andre Bezuidenhout's record of 35.528 seconds, with the Gould GR55 specialised Hillclimb racer, will be broken this year or if he shall remain king!

See you there!
