2023 recap

Reflecting on the excitement of the previous year's event, the 2023 Simola Hillclimb showcased awe-inspiring performances from classic and contemporary vehicles. Andre Bezuidenhout's mastery behind the wheel of a Gould GR55 secured him the top spot in the Single Seater and Sports Car Shootout.

At the same time, Franco Scribante's Nissan R35 GT-R dominated the Modified Saloon Car Shootout. Classic Car Friday saw Andre Bezuidenhout conquer with a Lola T460 among a field of vintage marvels.

Modified street legal vehicle owners catch a break

With the anticipation of another record crowd of spectators and corporate guests in 2024, along with an oversubscription of competitors vying to participate, the organisers have introduced a new Modified Street Car class for this year's event.

This addition allows owners of slightly modified cars to compete within their category rather than against the highly modified racing saloons, as has been the case in previous years. The growth of the car tuning segment in the market over the past decade has been significant, and the inclusion of this class is expected to attract a thrilling array of vehicles to the field.

An event where speed reigns supreme

The Simola Hillclimb is more than just a race; it celebrates speed, precision, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. Drivers push themselves and their machines to the limit, navigating tight corners and steep gradients in a quest for victory. But it's not just about the fastest lap times; it's about the passion, camaraderie, and sheer thrill of the chase that unites competitors and spectators alike.

Fan Fest and Classic Car Friday

The excitement extends beyond the track with the Fan Fest, a four-day extravaganza at Knysna High School sports fields. Here, fans can get up close and personal with the cars and drivers, witness scrutineering, and enjoy various activities. Classic Car Friday adds a nostalgic touch, featuring a parade of vintage beauties, including pre-war classics and iconic models from the golden age of motoring.

The King of the Hill Shootout

The event's climax, the King of the Hill Shootout, is where the country's fastest machinery battles it out for supremacy. With a limited field of top contenders, including reigning champions and newcomers alike, spectators can expect edge-of-the-seat action as drivers push their limits in pursuit of glory. From high-speed straights to hairpin bends, every twist and turn of the hill course will test the competitors' skill and nerve, culminating in a thrilling showdown to crown the ultimate champion.

MasterDrive and public involvement

No racing event is complete without proper precautions and safety regulations. The Simola Hillclimb has partnered with MasterDrive, which joined us during the challenging year of 2021. MasterDrive is a renowned organisation specialising in advanced driver training and road safety initiatives. This year, they are set to elevate the experience at the Simola Hillclimb event by offering exclusive VIP ride opportunities for a select few guests.

The 2024 Simola Hillclimb is an unforgettable spectacle, uniting motorsport enthusiasts from near and far to celebrate speed, adrenaline, and automotive excellence. So mark your calendars and prepare for yet another thrilling hillclimb spectacle.
