Freedom Day

Category News

Freedom Day, celebrated each year on April 27th, commemorates our Country's first Post-Apartheid democrat elections, that took place in 1994. As we enter an important new phase in our Country's development, read more about what this day can represent for the people of South Africa now, and what we can do to celebrate the achievement.

So much has happened since those tremendously important days, when our country overcame serious challenges, to begin to heal from the wounds of the past. We have come a very long way in a quarter of a century, and stand on the precipice of a new and even more challenging frontier.

Celebrate our Achievement

One thing we certainly can all feel proud of is the number of achievements South Africa, as a nation, has made. Since the first fully democratic election, we have made enormous strides across many social, economic, and political frontiers. We as a people have shown great unity and truly represented our "Rainbow Nation" for the world to see. Let us take the time to remember all we have been through, to focus ever-clearer on the more important task of moving forward, together.

Take Responsibility

We can furthermore look more towards ourselves, and the lifestyles we have become accustomed to, and be thankful. We do have mounting challenges that we must face. Yet we do have a number of very important resources available and have the chance to create very powerful solutions for this great country. Each and every person has a role to play, and we should start to take more responsibility for the impact we have, on the country and indeed the planet too. From responsible recycling to mindful water usage, we all have a duty to respect the natural flow of life.

Actions Change Circumstances

Even the smallest effort has an ongoing ripple effect. No action goes unnoticed and unfelt, so it behoves us to start small and begin making a more positive impact on our own environments. From personal or group meditations, to support groups and neighbourhood forums, stand up for what you believe in and connect with your fellow human beings. The votes that really count are the ones with your lifestyle choices. Choose to buy locally produced food and goods, that are healthy for you and have a low carbon footprint. Doing more of this will have an exponential impact.

The most important thing to keep our focus on is our own energy, and the impact we have on the world at large. You matter, and have an important role to play in many people's lives. "The purpose of life is to find your gift, the meaning is to give it away!" - Unknown
