Accumulate evergreen and Waterwise plants
Flowers such as agapanthus, cordifolius, Callistephus chinensis and strelitzia wash the landscape with vibrant purples, yellows, and oranges during the summer season but are equally beautiful selections during the winter. Flora like these are naturally green all year round and have minimal water requirements making them a preferred and carefree addition, requiring very little attention during seasonal changes.
Indoor Aesthetic
Keeping your interior and exterior in alignment is a step towards achieving a holistic aesthetic. Bring colour into your home with flowering indoor plants like cyclamen, chrysanthemum and phalaenopsis. Make sure to have them fed once a month with liquid plant food and lower the amount of water you give them as the months get colder.
Envisioning a winter shelter for nature
Imagine your garden as a safe haven for birds and wildlife. Create a sanctuary by leaving a few places a little "wild". This should be simple if you follow one rule, try not to have too much maintenance done. Garden critters will be able to inhabit certain sections if you keep them au natural to provide a space to hunker down for the winter months. Other options include the construction or placement of accessories such as birdbaths or hanging eco-friendly boxes for them to nest in.

Why mulching is vital for winter
Mulching is the process of adding an insulating layer of material over your topsoil. We do this to keep our roots and bulbs cool during the summer, and warm during the winter. Mulching also keeps moisture from evaporating from the soil meaning less need for watering. It also has the opposite effect on unwanted weeds sprouting up by keeping sunlight away from the soil. If you wish to keep your garden with minimal maintenance then considering this process is key.
