Sedgefield at a glance
Sedgefield is a peaceful seaside village, situated between Wilderness and Knysna, along the Garden Route in the Western Cape. The town is surrounded by vegetated sand dunes, dense pine plantations, lakes, the Swartvlei Estuary and the Indian Ocean.
Sedgefield, described by some as "the Slow Town" for its laidback atmosphere is reflected in the town's motto: "the tortoise sets the pace". The area surrounding Sedgefield is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. Groenvlei Lake is the only fresh water lake in the area and is a popular spot for Bass fishing. Sedgefield's surrounds are a plethora of fynbos and forest hiking trails that will keep the energetic entertained for hours. Swartvlei is one of the largest lakes in the Sedgefield, providing safe swimming and fishing and is ideal for youngsters to master the art of sailing.
Sedgefield Beach Festival features a unique blend of sports, live music, pampering, and kids' activities, with beach volleyball, cricket, rugby, and soccer, as well as sandcastle competitions.
Sedgefield is made up of several suburbs:
Myoli Beach and Cola Beach hug the coastline with some homes having direct access to the beach.
Sedgehill is situated on the ridge and has stunning views over the sea inlet and towards The Island.
Sedgefield Central is fairly level with commercial and residential properties. The town is divided by the N2 with some homes built on the northern side of the highway, including a retirement village.
The Island is situated to the west of Sedgefield and borders the lagoon.
To the east one finds Groenvallei and Groenvlei which border Lake Pleasant and offer gorgeous views .
General practitioners, physiotherapist and other allied therapeutic services are available in Sedgefield as well as local clinic. Private hospitals may be accessed in Knysna or slightly further afield in George.
