Knysna at a glance

Knysna is considered the "Pearl" of the Garden Route.  It is made up of various suburbs which stretch around our famous lagoon from the Western Heads to the Eastern Heads.   Offering activities for all age groups, from hiking, cycling, fishing, boating, walking, bowling, tennis, to the refinement of gentle activity in a lifestyle retirement village.  Knysna is a short 60 kms from the George Airport - or the even-closer Plettenberg Bay airport - for those wishing to commute by air.

Brenton on Sea hugs the coastline with access to the Brenton beach. There are freehold homes as well as several apartment blocks. While the Brenton on Sea Hotel offers a delightful spot to have meals or an evening drink.  

Brenton on Lake borders the lagoon with direct access to the water. Both "Brenton's" are quiet suburbs with a fair amount of holiday homes. The buck roam freely around the gardens and the bird life is prolific. It is approximately 14.3kms to the centre of town.

Belvidere is an upmarket suburb also situated along the lagoon edge. Country living a short distance from town.  Belvidere houses the Belvedere Retirement Village and the popular Belvidere Manor Hotel. "Old" Belvidere is steeped in history dating back to George Rex, and the little Belvidere Church is a popular attraction. Belvidere Estate, which is approximately 9.5km to the centre of town, contains more contemporary homes, that are neat and upmarket, with many waterfront properties boasting their own jetties. 

The Eastfords comprise eco estates such as Eastford Ridge, Eastford Downs, Eastford Glen, Eastford Vale and Eastford Country Estate.  All the estates have intercom access and are approximately 6 kms to the centre of town. A popular option is to allow gardens to the proliferate natural flora that grows abundantly. The South Africa Protea bush grows beautifully in this area, and many of homes may offer both forest and lagoon views.

Simola Golf Estate is found above the Eastfords, boasting large stands and homes with stunning views of the Knysna River.  This luxury estate houses numerous options in the multi million Rand range with a warm contemporary feel.  The estate's eco-credentials are well-renowned. The Golf Club offers a sporting option or a gourmet meal in the evening at the hotel and spa.  

Green Pastures is a country estate a short distance from the centre of town. It comprises freehold homes and a small privately accessed retirement village. The suburb offers a pastoral feel and gorgeous valley views.

Welbedacht is a suburb with bucolic appeal approximately 4.3 kms from the centre of town and has secure country estates such as Welbedacht Estate, Kurtzenhof Estate, Cobble Creek, Narnia and Larenhill.  Kanonkop makes up part of this suburb and the Montessori School is found here. This is a lovely country suburb with an abundance of trees and shrubs as well as bird life comprises middle to up market homes.  There are several guest houses and lodges within this suburb.

Paradise, Heuwelkruin and Westhill are built on the side of a hill with majority of the homes having lagoon views. This is a popular family orientated suburb with proximity close to schools and the Oakhill Private School is situated in Heuwelkruin. Westhill is approximately 1.2 kms to the centre of town

Knysna Heights at the top of the hill has lagoon views from the properties on the Southern side and warm sunny mountain views on the Northern side. Knysna Heights is approximately 4 kms away from central town.  A lovely leafy family suburb with middle to upper class homes.

Knysna Central comprises several apartment blocks, townhouse complexes and freehold properties as well as being the central business district. Here you will find the Knysna Primary School and Knysna Senior School, along with medical facilities, shops and restaurants.  Knysna
